"I'm extremely excited to mess up all of your album of the year lists with the release of Simple Questions, a brand new, full length album on Skinwalker Recordings (curated by Nick Wainwright of Taskmaster, an absolute masterful artist who I have looked up to and admired for years). The album includes studio versions of two of the three live sets I've presented over the year (one in San Diego and Milwaukee at X-Ray Arcade, another in Milwaukee at Surrealist Sands, hence the photos) and three other audio-only works.
From a thematic perspective, the album explores the discursive reproduction of whiteness or, in non-jargony terms, how people use language to ensure white supremacy continues being a thing (the designation of land as "empty," the branding of aesthetic beauty within eurocentrism, the use of grammar and perfectionism as a way to designate people as othered, etc.) through the manipulation of one of Tucker Carlson's dumbest monologues. From a musical/aesthetic perspective, Simple Questions comes from a reengagement with all of the reasons I love harsh noise. More than just being distortion and contact mic worship, I've been spending a lot of time revisiting all of the gestures and compositional strategies that make harsh noise a distinctive genre (not to mention that angelhairaudio did an incredible job mastering it, so that feeling comes across way more than it could have).
At the moment, the album only exists in a digital form, but we're working on getting a physical artifact up and running soon (more on what that awkward phrasing means when it's ready). For now, you can download and stream the album(and paying for the download will make the physical version show up quicker, so do that)."
